International Awards
  • 14th International Conference on MultiMedia Modeling (MMM08)
    Zheng Yantao, an AGS PhD scholar with the Computer Vision and Image Understanding Department received Best Student Paper Award from MMM08 held in Japan, 9 - 11 January 2008. The title of the paper is "Object-Based Image Retrieval beyond Visual Appearances”. Co-authors are Shi-Yong Neo and Tat-Seng Chua from NUS, and Qi Tian from I²R.

  • International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) 2007, Beijing, China
    A paper from Computer Vision & Image Understanding (CVIU) Department titled “Constructing Secure and Content-dependent Watermarking Scheme Using Homomorphic Encryption” was awarded Student Best Paper in the InternationalConference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) 2007. Authors were Zhi  Li and Yong Lian from ECE/NUS and Zhu Xinglei and Sun Qibin from I²R.

    Chai Chin Choy from Modulation & Coding Department, together with his studentWei Cao and co-supervisor, Nallanathan Arumugam from ECE Department, NUSwon the Best Student Paper Award in the 2007 IEEE International Conference onUltra-Wideband (ICUWB’2007). The paper is titled “A Novel High Data Rate DSUWB Communication System via Superposition of Chip Waveforms”.

    I²R

    "Closed-circuit TV system to better detect terrorism threats on trains" developed by the Computer Vision and Image Understanding Department, led by Mr. Karianto Leman.

  • 2007 Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) of the Year (Asia-Pacific) -
    Mr. S.P.T. Krishnan for using his RHCE knowledge to make the blood donor recruitment program of the Singapore Red Cross more efficient.

  • A*STAR Scientist Entrepreneur Award 2008 -
    The MIMO team from I²R was recognised for successfully commercialized or spun off their research to the industry, and their outstanding performance in terms of number of licensing deals and patents.

  • The Singapore Standardistion Programme -
    Dr. Yau Wei Yun was awarded the 2007 Standards Council Distinguished Award on 5 November 2007 in appreciation of his dedication, leadership and significant contributions to the national standardisation programme.

  • National Technology Award 2007 -
    Dr Susanto Rahardja, Dr Yu Rongshan, Dr Lin Xiao and Mr Huang Haibin for their outstanding contributions to advancement in digital audio coding technologies that is adopted as an international standard.
