A*STAR Scholarships

National Science Scholarships (NSS)

A*STAR offers National Science Scholarships (NSS) to nurture talents for the challenges of a research career. NSS offers undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship in various Science, Engineering and Biomedical Sciences disciplines at local and selected overseas institutes. The different types of scholarships offered under NSS are:

BS-PhD Scholarship- supports both undergraduate as well as postgraduate studies up to the PhD level at top overseas universities.

MBBS-PhD Scholarship- trains candidates in clinical and research skills

Overseas PhD Scholarship- aims to support graduates with good honours degrees in their pursuit of postgraduate studies up to the PhD level in top overseas universities.

International Fellowship- two categories are available. The first category supports postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows currently based in top overseas institutions and it is targeted at those who intend to eventually work in Singapore upon completion of their programme. The second category offers overseas research training and attachment opportunities to researchers based in local research institutes/centres/hospitals and universities.

A*STAR Graduate Scholarships (AGS)

The other attractive scholarship is the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) which is a collaboration between A*STAR Graduate Academy (AGA) and NUS Graduate School (NGS). AGS comprises a four-year PhD study tenable at NUS, and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) in the top overseas universities or research laboratories. Areas covered include Biomedical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering.

A*STAR Imperial Partnership (AIP)

The AIP, a partnership between A*STAR and Imperial College, provides PhD training to the scholars, via the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) scheme. Scholars under this programme will work on research projects at A*STAR's research institute while pursuing a PhD with Imperial College.

R&D Joint Projects with Local Universities

We also participate actively in R&D joint projects with both National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Under the joint research collaboration with NTU and NUS, there are many opportunities for graduate students to work on these joint projects while pursuing full-time research studies in these universities.
