Institute for Infocomm Research

January 2004 Q1 issue

Welcome to the inaugural issue of @work, the quarterly e-newsletter of the Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R)!

How time flies! I²R marked its first year of existence in November 2003. Despite the air of uncertainty that lay ahead, our researchers have been quick off the mark and have had several significant achievements over the past year. We are pleased to embark on this new channel of communication that will bring news of the institute directly to your desktop.

This issue brings you news of three recent firsts - a significant breakthrough in WDM transmission; the first automatic checker of Material Safety Data Sheets and the first known information security intrusion tolerant module. Each issue will also provide you updates of the state of our intellectual property (IP) bank, a sampling of key visitors to the institute, information on some forthcoming events, and lastly, some developments in terms of industry development.

We welcome your feedback and look forward to including news of potential collaborations with your organisation in future e-newsletters. Our website, http://www.i2r.a-star.edu.sg/, is a repository of information and we invite you to visit it often.

Please feel free to forward this e-newsletter to your friends & colleagues.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Lawrence Wong, Professor
Executive Director
