Emarson Victoria - Pioneer of the T-Up Scheme

When you have the opportunity to work in a different environment, use the chance to shine. So says Emarson Victoria, an ex-I²R staff involved in a fruitful and enjoyable working experience attachment with Muvee.

Having earned his Bachelors and Masters in mechanical engineering in RMIT University, Melbourne, Emarson Victoria went on to pursue a career in I²R in 1997. Being a non-local, it was not all smooth sailing initially as it took 3 months before he was finally granted an employment pass to work in Singapore. The agonizing wait paid off as I²R presented the perfect opportunity for him to gain exposure in an industry that he was passionate about. During his tenure at I²R, Emarson was a pioneer candidate of the T-up program that developed various prototypes.

An opportunity soon arrived which saw Emarson seconded to Muvee as a product strategist, a role which required someone who had video editing experience. Citing videography as one of his passions in life, it was a dream come true working together with a start-up in Singapore specializing in software development for video editing.
Little did Emarson know that he would later create a revolution in the industry with the launch of Muvee Autoproducer as a Product Manager: an automatic video editing software for pro-consumers and amateurs. On top of simplifying the editing and post production process, this breakthrough software also enabled users to add various customised styles and music to a home video.

Involved in the entire product development life cycle serving as a key contact point between production and support team, Emarson played a key role in information gathering and analysis as well as manage post launch analytics such as software debugging. It required long hours – 7 days working from 9am to 2am - throughout the product development life cycle. But all the hard work was well worth it to Emerson; deriving maximum satisfaction from knowing that end-users enjoy and find the software useful. Emarson’s career has since leaped forward and he cites that his greatest challenge was not only to adjust to actual working and its conditions, it was also dealing with real-life customer-related problems that proved to be most beneficial.

Now a product manager at Muvee, he continues to maintain a good professional and personal relationship with his ex-colleagues at I²R. In fact, Emarson is currently laying the groundwork for a co-project opportunity that involves the development of a new media technology.

For the potential applicants out there, Emarson has this
advice to give:
Be proactive and flexible to adapt to a company’s
environment and culture
Take every job as a good exposure and an opportunity
to prove your capabilities

Without a doubt, it sure makes good sense to follow the advice of someone who has experienced it all.
