The
Rebirth of I²R
On the 1st of July 2007, we introduced a brand new organization
structure to I²R. Complementing our new mission and
vision, this new-fangled dynamic matrix structure promises
to bring about efficient response to the demands of the
growing physical sciences and engineering community!
10 intrinsically-linked departments and 6 programmes
have been incorporated into I²R. This dynamic working
environment will bring about more interaction and therefore,
heighten communications between programmes and departments.
Now, we are more ready and able to meet the changing
market needs! We will also be strengthened in terms
of the institute’s ability to respond readily
to the advantages that its new home, Fusionopolis, will
bring.
The R&D work in the Programmes will be more industry
and market driven. Each programme will have to translate
the vision for the business and/or technology into a
comprehensive roadmap. As for the role of our Departments,
they will manage and advance their current abilities.
The Departments will also have to chart out their research
roadmaps and align them with the Programme’s roadmaps.
Our relentless efforts in creating intellectual property
and contributions to the international standards community
have set a mark for Singapore to become an Infocomm
hub in the world. Through our R&D efforts, we are
actively seeking to license more technologies to local-based
industries, thus playing a part to boost our robust
economy. This will thus fulfill our aim in attracting
more foreign investments into Singapore.
The year 2008 will be an exciting affair for the IT
world as it marks the launch of Fusionopolis. Fusionopolis
is a nucleus for world class talents, international
companies and the local Infocomm and media communities.
It will allow local and international companies to come
together, facilitating the creation of new ideas, thrilling
innovations and gripping breakthroughs for future technological
industries and enterprises.
