October 2004 Q4 Issue
How time flies! We have come to the 4th issue
of @work and we have much to share with you on programs that have
taken place and a list of exciting upcoming events.
First, at HotNews@work, we would like to invite your colleagues
and you to participate in our annual event, Infocomm Horizons 04.
This two-day event will take place on 1–2 November, at Meritus
Mandarin Hotel, Singapore. Check the event’s website, http://www.horizons04.com,
for full details and do plan on joining us.
Read also about how a successful collaboration with STMicroelectronics
(ST) has led to ST setting up a center of excellence in 3G mobile
communications in Singapore.
In this issue, Technology@work showcases Drowning Early Warning
System (DEWS). You will be able to see how the system can promptly
detect distress and drowning situations and immediately alert the
life-guard.
Next, discover how I²R’s contact tracing system –
StarTrack, can be deployed not only as a medical surveillance to
facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of disease among contacts,
but also be applied to other areas where short range proximity-based
contact tracing is needed.
Finally, read about our self-customized fibre gratings developed
for strain, temperature and gas sensor systems that allow engineers
to enhance structural safety, maintainability, and performance.
In the Industry Development column, we provide some insights to
the Operation and Technology Roadmapping (OTR), an initiative to
guide local companies through interactive workshops facilitated
by program facilitator to chart an operation and technology roadmap
to guide them for future business growth.
We welcome your feedback and look forward to including news of collaborations
with your organization in future e-newsletters.
If you are interested in any of our forthcoming events, do sign-up
for them early.
Our website, http://www.i2r.a-star.edu.sg,
is a rich repository of information and we invite you to visit it
often.
Please feel free to forward this e-newsletter to your friends
and colleagues.
Thank you
Yours faithfully
