I²R new Management Appointments
 


With effect from 1 March 2008, Mr. Budiman Sastra has been appointed as the institute’s Deputy Executive Director, Industry. Budi’s extensive industry experience in some of the world’s largest MNCs and his previous appointment as Chief Technology Officer of LG-Philips LCD prior joining I²R will be very useful to us. Budi will help oversee the six research programmes of the newly established matrix structure of I²R.
 
On the same date, Professor Lye Kin Mun has been reappointed as the Deputy Executive Director, Research. Prof. Lye will assist in managing the ten research departments in the institute.
 
I²R researcher recipient of the Fitch Beach Outstanding Graduate Research Award
 
 
Dr Karthik Nandakumar, a research fellow at I²R’s Computer Vision & Image Understanding Department, is one of the three recipients of the ‘Fitch Beach Outstanding Graduate Research Award in March 2008.

This annual award is given by the College of Engineering of the Michigan State University, USA to undergraduate or graduate students who have enrolled full-time at Michigan State University College of Engineering. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated character, moral judgement and commitment.

Karthik’s PhD dissertation is titled ‘Multibiometric Systems: Fusion Strategies and Template Security’.

Michigan State University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)’s Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Lab is a world leader in biometric research and technology.
